2021年にウェブサイト「Incomple Niwa Archives 終らない庭のアーカイヴ」（以下「INA」）を公開するとともに、山口情報芸術センター[YCAM]において、共同研究成果展示を開催しました。
ここでは、「INA」のうちYCAM近辺に位置する常栄寺庭園のアーカイヴを素材に、インスタレーション・ヴァージョン《Incomple Niwa Archives 終らない庭のアーカイヴ》を展示しました。
この展示にあたっては、新たなコラボレーターとして建築デザインスタジオALTEMY、プログラマー白木良を迎え、日本庭園における人の体験を解体・再構築することを試み、庭のアーカイヴを「ぼんやりとながめる」インスタレーションを模索しました。
YCAMの大階段に、764個のウレタンユニットからなる座具を設置し、その上に、9つの映像モニターを吊り下げました。映像モニターは、立って見るには低すぎ、階段に座ると遠く、座具に身を横たえたとき、ちょうどよい高さに設置されています。
この9つのモニターの配置は、日本庭園の石組みを踏まえており、鑑賞者はそのうちの一つしか「見る」ことはできず、他のモニターを同時に見ようとすると、おのずと「ながめる」よう設計されています。
In 2021, the website “Incomplete Niwa Archives” (INA) was released and the results of our joint research were showcased in an exhibition at the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media [YCAM].
Here, an installation version of INA was shown, drawn from our archives on the Jōei-ji Garden, located near YCAM.
For this exhibition, the architectural design studio ALTEMY and programmer Shiraki Ryō were invited as collaborators. Together with them, we attempted to deconstruct and reconstruct the human experience in Japanese gardens, seeking to create an installation in which visitors could “look absentmindedly” [nagameru] at the exhibits.
Nine video monitors were suspended above 764 urethane seats installed on the grand staircase of YCAM. The screens were placed at just the right height for a viewer lying down on the seat (too low to be seen standing up and too far away when sitting on the steps). Also, their arrangement was based on that of the rocks in the Japanese garden, designed in such a way that the viewer could only look at one screen at a time, while the others appeared dimly at the edges of vision, glanced [nagameru] rather than seen.
モニターには、それぞれ常栄寺庭園の点群データ、長回し映像、園内の生物などのミクロの映像を毎回異なるパターンで表示し、日本庭園のアーカイヴを多視点的・多時間的に視聴できるように構成されています。また、2階ギャラリー側には、ウェブサイト「INA」を体験するコーナーも設けました。
ここで展示された１モニターの映像を以下で公開しています。
The monitors showed, each time in a different pattern, point cloud data of the Jōei-ji Garden, a long-exposure video of it, and microscopic images of the living things in there. As such, they offered a visual and auditory presentation of the archives from multiple points of view and at multiple points of time. In addition, computers were set up on the gallery side of the second floor for visitors to explore the INA website.
